Off to Honolulu

You have decided to head off to Honolulu to the top secret A.A.K.V.O. station buried deep within the Diamond Head volcanic cone.  But first you must determine which direction you should steer your ship.

The current is pushing you to the left so you need to compensate by steering toward the right. But how many degrees to the right should you steer? In other words, what is the angle x in the diagram below. You know from trigonometry class that the sin of the angle x is just the ratio of the opposite side divided by the hypotenuse. You remember thinking as a kid, why are people so confused by trigonometry? The sin of an angle is just the ratio of two sides of a right triangle.  All you have to do is figure out the ratio of the opposite side divided by the hypotenuse and look up the angle in the table!
